What's my car worth
« on: December 24, 2011, 05:11:26 AM »
Just saw a show on TV today called "what's my car worth?"  One segment had a light blue 69 SS and the owner was "Marty".  Hmmm.

Yep, that is our Marty. Initially ran in early Oct. or so and Marty even placed a comment about it on CRG. Knew it was his car as soon as I saw it. Interesting that one show had a ZL1 being purchased last year that I had seen at a shop earlier this year and then then three days later I talked to the Chasing Classic Cars host at the Hershey meet. He was looking at books/literature a friend had there for sale. Seems like a real good guy........

Yep...but you know me. Sometimes I can't leave well enough alone. Although I was satisfied with Keith's number in this market place, I can't agree with how he arrived at it.

Here is his comment...

“In this week’s mailbag Marty has sent us information about this 1969 Camaro RS/SS coupe. It’s fully restored but what really sets it apart is it has 26 factory options” (Maybe, but what sets it apart is only a hand full were painted this color).

“These cars are not highly collectable. They built over 225,512 in '69 so it gets its collectability rating of a C” (Nope; 243,085 69’s were built and of those, 37,773 were RS, & 34,932 were SS. And, of those some experts claim between 10k & 20k units were RS/SS).

“And this car only has a 300hp engine”. (Perhaps, but the L48 is only 25hp less that the base 396).

If it comes to market I believe it will sell for 40K” (how can you give a car a collectability rating of C and then peg it at 40k?).

I digress...Happy Holidays!

At least put a page about this in your car's "book" and send me a copy.

I knew that was his too.  I've only seen one like it and that was here.  I must have missed the post you made because I'm usually looking for 68 posts.  Nothing personal, I just don't have one and most of the time I'm looking for specific questions to 68's.

I thought the number they threw out was low too, even in this market.  I saw a Z just like mine go through auction and went for $80k about a year ago.  I don't know what was so special about it to get that and know that mine wouldn't get anywhere near that.  I do know that if I was to get them to "judge" mine, they would probably say something like $25 or $30k, but I wouldn't sell it for twice that.

There is no way your Z would come in that low! Even with those guys (WYCW crew). They are very savvy with the more popular models and extremely knowledgeable with the European stuff. But they twiddle their thumbs when it comes to middle of the road models and tend to lump them all into one big pile.

Well, mines about a 3 or 4, needs paint and cleaning up.  The undercarriage hasn't been touched and I have a CE engine that is undocumented.  I think there's a thread on here when I was trying to figure things out.  It is a real 302 and has most of the original parts on the engine that are the right date for the car, so I assume it's the engine they put in under warranty when the original got toasted.  69 Z's just have a bigger following and hence the money.  I am partial to the 68's because I had one in H.S.
