TH350 Kickdown Cable
« on: December 21, 2011, 04:48:31 AM »
Does anyone know where a original style kickdown cable can be purchased? All I can find are the new style, which will not allow you to use same bracket or get the vacuum line to booster back the way it should.

No repro available.......

You'll have to either switch over to the more modern kickdown cable & bracket, or try finding an original one in a auto salvage yard...which is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Good luck.....

Ok, I let this sit for a few days for everybody to ponder. Now the word is that there is no reproduction of this
Cable. Come on guys, if that is true then I must have stumbled on to one of the only parts for a first gen that
Is not available by OEM or aftermarket??

bc,

This original style kick-down cable is not available in repro.

You're right, this is one a few parts that are not available.  For some reason, it's not being done.  If it was available in repro, it probably wouldn't fit anyway.

I had to search around for almost four years before I stumbled upon one by accident.

Camaronut,
Did you consider or attempting to revamp the new to
Reproduce the old?
Would you or anybody else happen to have a good pic of the old style?

IZRSSS posted great engine comp pics in oct of 10 that showed a bracket for the newer style cable. This bracket was a lower profile than I have seen before. This mounting allows vac booster hose to pss threw bracket as it should.
anybody know where to find this style bracket?

I am currently searching for the correct trans detent cable. I don't want to mislead anyone. This is not the correct application. Simply an illustration for bc69...The correct assembly for the L48 can be found on AIM/UPC M38

Here is the same bracket in the pics below...http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/17828/Camaro-Kick-down-cable-bracket-T350-69/

That's great. At the time the only or closest alternative.
But still as you stated not correct. Will keep eyes open and
keep asking. Do you have any measurements off the old cable as to length
of the cable and housing? If one had that off a OEM it wound not be that hard
to retro.
Thanks again.

I need to point something out...from the information I've been able to gather, the wire tower in the pic is incorrect also. Evidently it is for a Z28 and not for of the L48. The Z tower is taller and has 2 bends, whereas the L48 only has 1. My point is, whoever had this car before me probable changed the tower to accommodate the bracket & vac hose.

bc,

Boston14 posted exactly what you are looking for.

Saying that, there is another alternative..........

There are plenty of Classic Car junkyards...sorry....automotive recycling centers, that might have these morsels still within their yards........you just have to search for them on the net.

One place is that Desert Valley Auto Parts (they had a tv show) that has nothing but these old cars in stock......you just have to make it worth their while to find it for you.

Don't forget, these assemblies also existed in any Impala, Nova, etc back in the day.......

Good Luck......

I have looked over the above posts and some old in conversation with Boston14 and others.
I have to question and or agree with the correctness of the left stand
as a Z or L48. I have  seen two 69 350's, one camaro and one
a 300hp from a impala, which we all know is essentially the same as the
L48, and the stand and kickdown brackets are the same.
Both have the double bend as that in his pic.

Although the AIM isn’t specific with regards to the L48’s wire tower usage (or any other tower usage for that matter), it does appear to have pretty accurate illustrations. I decided to use this in addition to Steve Shaugers Vintage Certified ’69 L48 to make a sophisticated wild ass guess.

I think the pics show how my L-Tower could have been used for either the M35 or the L48. Again, this is but one guy’s opinion, but since I posed this question before with no definitive answer, I thought maybe someone would be willing to take a stand...  ::) this time...

The first pic is my tower...
