Anyone care to comment on whether these partial VIN stampings look correct?  I'm considering a purchase, but the differing fonts are giving me pause. They're from a 69Z.  Thanks

Need a better picture of the engine stamp, but from what I can see, they don't appear to match. Clearer (high resolution) pictures would help.

Looks like Rob's Burgundy Z. Nice car.
I'm not really liking either stamp, but that's not conclusive. What's the pad and trans stamps look like?

OK, thanks guys.  I don't have any greater resolution photos, or a pic of the pad stamp.  These pics were taken with my BB while squeezing myself underneath the car, and I wasn't able to get a pic of the pad without removing the alternator.   The pad is properly dated and it looked to be OK to my eye, but... 
 
Yes Kurt, this is a burgundy RS Z, although the current owner isn't a Rob.  I take it the VIN is in the CRG database.
 
OK, it's enough that there's doubt about the stamps.  I've got other complaints about the car too, so I'll pass on it.  A knowledgeable friend of mine here had question about these stamps too.  I shouldn't have second-guessed him.

I personally find the engine stamps easier to verify.
I wouldn't call the VIN's bad until I saw the other stamps.

Transmission "0"'s are "TALLER" (less round) as compared to the engine stamping where the "0"'s are shaped more round, like a "O"

At least one, or both are restamped.

That's not always true - I've seen stampings on known-original cars that indicate that those two stamping operations were occasionally separated. Work elements in line operations were always subject to rearrangement as content and manpower adjustments were made.

I do not like the variability in the stamps either however I too have seen differences in the stamps from the engine to trans on verified cars.

The only absolute seems to be... There are no absolutes!
