20 by 8 foot car hauler
« on: September 06, 2011, 07:23:38 PM »
Anyone ever used a 20 by 8 foot enclosed hauler for a first gen car. I am looking at replacing my open trailer.I hear 8.5 foot wide is the best but I have a chance at a good deal on a 8 footer. Thanks

How will you exit your car when you are in the trailer?

I have a 22' trailer and with the car about 12" off the back door (so it want get damaged if the car moves back some) there is enough room to move around in the front of the car. If you install winch a 20" might be long enough, I use the winch to load and unload my car...With a 20" trailer the would be little room for storage of a tire jack and battery up front for the winch...What is the dove tail length on a 20' trailer...I would check this out first to make sure the car is not being trailered on an angle once inside the trailer..

Hello,
I utilize both a Wells Cargo and also a TPD 8X20 enclosed for the 69 Camaro. No problems at all. A winch is the normal way to load and unload the car. You really don't want to drive the car on, as it is very destructive to the clutch on any car.
I have found the width difference between an 8 and 8 1/2 footer to be very detectable with the tow rig in regards to aerodynamics. Something to consider.

I have a Roadmaster 20 foot trailer with wedge front. It has an escape door on the driver's side. No problems at all for my two '69 Camaros.

John - can you post the link to the company you purchased the trailer from?

Thanx
