68 302 air cleaner
« on: August 10, 2011, 01:09:21 AM »
Is there any difference (quality, fit, appearance) between the 68 302 air cleaner assembly (lid & base) from the re-production ones?

I have mine but the lid needs re-chroming and a lot of clean up and paint on the base. The re-production one I can get for $80.00 and it might be easier than fixing mine if it is of good quality.

Thanks

I don't think I have ever heard anything positive with regards to reproduction parts. If your lid is in good condition I recommend you have it re-chromed. Nothing beats an original part. I used this company out of El Paso and was very satisfied with the results. I was also surprised how reasonably priced they are.

As for the correct paint, I am sure someone here can point you in the right direction.

The only problem with re-chroming the lid is the silk screening underneath.....it will be gone.   You would then need to send it somewhere to get the silk screening redone.  I think Paragon Corvette can sell you a reproduction, re-chrome your existing lid, re-screen your existing lid, or re-chrome and re-screen your lid.  Their Tech telephone number is  (810) 655-4641 (this is not a toll free number), give them a call and they can fill you in with all the details...might want to check with them before trying to get it re-chromed elsewhere.

According to JohnZ and others Paragon sells an excellent repro or as mentioned have your orig. rechromed per Jerry and Paragon is an option along with what Marty suggested. And agree 100% with Marty that whenever wherever you can use those orig. parts as in most cases they are more correct. The base is an easy one to restore and you will have some self satisfaction.......
