First post!

For the last several years I've been researching the possibilities in rebuilding the different brake valves used on American muscle cars. I started with Fords because I needed to rebuild the combination valve used on my 1970 Mustang, but lately I've been looking at the valves used on AMC, GM, and Chrysler vehicles, too. I've recently had some success in producing a kit for the rear proportioning/pressure regulating valve used on 1967 - 1969 Camaros and I'm currently working on a kit for the pressure differential valve/switch. With a little help I think I can produce a kit to rebuild the metering valve, too.

I've seen some pictures of the insides of the metering valve, but I need to see one up close to measure the seals properly. Does anyone have a used original valve that they'd be willing to let me borrow for autopsy and research purposes? I'll rebuild it for free and return it to you if I can come up with the parts for a kit. It may take a few months, so I need to work with someone who's not in a hurry.  I'm keeping my eye on eBay and I'll buy one there if the price is right, but working with a volunteer may be quicker.

A lot of people have Karps rebuild theirs here and I think they line it in stainless.

Right, that's the pic I saw.  So you don't think it's worth rebuilding at home?  Sleeving a cast iron valve in brass or stainless steel will certainly improve longevity.

I can't say if it's worth it to you or if wanting to rebuild them yourself is viable.  I was just trying to say that there are places that sell rebuild kits and places that rebuild them already.  If it's something you want to do, I'm all for it.

I haven't found any rebuild kits anywhere.  Can you point me to them?  I didn't see anything on the Karps web site, but if someone is already making them it may not be worth my time unless I can produce something at a better price.

The closest thing I've found is this:

Heartbeat doesn't know the correct terminology either - that's for the "Metering" or "Hold-Off" valve, not the proportioning valve. I don't know of a SINGLE vendor out there that understands the difference.

30 bucks for 3 pieces of rubber.  I'm in the wrong business.

I'd like to think I can do better than that.  It might even be possible to do a better job of reproducing the rubber cap, but if a custom shape is required the costs go up.

It has taken me a while, but I've been able to come up with a rebuild kit for the valve that costs quite a bit less that the $30 kit mentioned above. I just posted the details describing how the valve can be disassembled and rebuilt here:

What's the best way to post a "for sale" ad? I don't see forums for classifieds.

CRG doesn't have a classified section.  It's always been quoted to put all the ads across the street at Team Camaro. They are set up for it and can handle it better. Here's a link to the classified forum.
