a few questions about my 1967 rs ss
« on: August 01, 2011, 03:27:48 AM »
i just bought a 1967 RS/SS today all numbers match engine trans except rearend which i was given two nova 12bolt rearends
it has new NOS front fenders core support inner fenders all window molding inside and out rocker molding, some pieces i have 2's and 3's of
car has 32,875 miles on the odemeter which is 3398 more miles than its last registration in 1986 it has been sitting since 1988 when it was disassembled
to be turned into a drag car (never finsihed) so i have a fairly decent restoration project with alot of new NOS parts all of which still have GM tags and stickers on them
the only thing that really has me puzzled is the color of the block it is blue underneath decades of grease and oil like i had said all numbers match except the rearend
even all the accessories like the alt, carb and the air pump have the proper date codes anyone have any more info on the correct engine paint code?
i would think orange like every other small block ive seen but then again ibe been wrong before  ;D   any help or advice would be awesome

VIN124377L135720
ENGINE SUFFIX V0113MT

also it has chrome chevrolet script valve covers?   must be aftermarket or chromed later?

The original engine would have been painted orange.

Check the casting date of the block, it should be before Jan 13th 1967. What is the build date of the car? it should be after Jan 13th. A good picture of your engine pad and trim tag would be the best way to get the best info here. Good luck.

Nice project. I noticed you have no holes below the rear bumper for backup lamps, maybe someone changed out the taillight panel and forgot the holes?? I also own one with "wings", and when I had the block hot tanked prior to rebuilding I noticed quite a few areas were blue (under the chevrolet orange). The machine shop stated he see's quite a lot of blue on the old original blocks (again under the orange), and the paint is really tough as it doesn't come off in the tank, while all the other paint does.

Just another question before you invest further $$$$. Did you verify the hidden vin numbers vs the other numbers on the car?? The taillight panel, open rivet at the trim tag, along with the engine color, made me "curious". Best of luck.

1967heaven,

Your car was built close to mine!  My LA 67 RS/SS 350 has a build date of 01C as well and a production number of 14116 (only 4723 before yours).  Pretty cool!
