'69 Quad Carb, correct linkage
« on: July 26, 2011, 10:22:29 PM »
Anybody know of any good pictorial sources for how the throttle linkage would be set up for a '69 Camaro, 350/300hp, Quad 4MV, 4 speed manual? (Cowl Induction)

I'm doing a engine restoration and have all the correct parts, but not sure exactly how it's configured. Correct restoration photos or original GM diagrams would be great. Specifics like:  should the throttle rod be straight (as delivered repro), or does it require a bend to miss brake booster line?  Also, the carb return spring proper location – tie to the coil mount somewhere, or in the eye-hole on the thermostat housing?

Thanks...

First check out this link to see if the throttle rod you have matches this one....http://www.heartbeatcity.com/store/product/13679/Camaro-Throttle-rod-assembly-327-350--68-69/
The Gm parts manual shows that the correct part number for the throttle rod is #3923539 and this Heartbeat City description states that their rod is an exact reproduction.

For the connection of the return spring....see the Heartbeat City description also.  If you don't have this AIM as they described....it shows the return spring is connected to a separate bracket, part #3930791, that is bolted on top of the coil mounting bracket base.

The linkage in previous post is wrong.  Classic Muscle list the linkage as part   3923539.  The bracket for the return spring is part number   3930791.

Here a link to their site.    http://oldmusclecars.com/

I tried to post the links directly to the parts but I couldn't get it to work.

Update to my original info.  Here is a link to a better photo of the throttle rod:  http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~showpic~Z5Z5Z50000358f~Z5Z5Z5FCAHW~Z5Z5Z51~Z5Z5Z5~Z5Z5Z5

Here is a link to a photo of the accelerator spring bracket:  http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~showpic~Z5Z5Z50000358f~Z5Z5Z5FAQYR~Z5Z5Z51~Z5Z5Z5~Z5Z5Z5

Both of these can be found at:  http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?userwatch~dynamicSearchPage~cadeiije#1967-69%20Camaro%20Parts

I can get you a diagram of the spring attachment area but it will have to be later in the day....have to go now.

Great info, thanks to all! I'm already seeing what I had wanted to see. Hopefully all will get this reply, as I'm still becoming familiar with the forum.

Hey guys, again thank for the info, but further confusion ensues. Earlier thread suggested Heartbeat City as correct repro, and another from Classic Muscle. Both have very good reputations for accuracy, but their photos of the products differ.

(See photos – note number of bends in rod.)

What would you suggest?

The one from Classic Muscle is correct.

The other one is too long, and will not fit.  I have one....there is not enough thread to make this one work.

Although the rod (3923539) from Classic Muscle is correct, the swivel is not.  The swivel is supposed to have a slot all the way around it for a C-shaped retainer (9416713), not a hole for a cotter pin, as pictured on 68 AIM 6/D3.  Also, I believe the rod originally had a dark gray phosphate plated finish, not a silver zinc one.  At least the several original ones I saw were phosphated.

BTW, I realize that the original post was for a 69 and I replied referencing the 68 AIM.  I don't have a 69 AIM, but doubt the method of connection or finish differed between 68 and 69 if the part number remained the same.
