L48 "actual " horsepower
« on: July 19, 2011, 11:33:13 AM »
We all know alot of the horsepower ratings were underestimated, but does anyone know what the actual horsepower of the first L48s were? Or was it pretty close to the 295 rating?

I used to have a 1970 300 Horsepower L48. It was overhauled using a stock cam, intake, carb, crank stroke, and exhaust manifolds. The block was honed and had a standard bore, it put out 325 horsepower and 386 feet pounds of torque on an engine dyno. I don't know how much change there was between 67 & 68 when the L48 as rated at 295 H/P and 69 & 70 when it was rated at 300 H/P.

Cool thanks for the info. That's around my ballpark figure. Probably slightly lower I assume on the 67 version

Kelvin have you read ALL the CRG reports on the Home Page?   If not click the Big RED box at the top of page.
