Engine Mount Removal?
« on: July 03, 2011, 02:40:03 AM »
Took out my inline 6-cylinder today to swap in a small block crate motor. Everything went surprisingly smooth till I went to take out the old 6-cylinder motor mounts from the cross-member. The nuts on the inside of the crossmember spins when I turn the bolt. Is there an easy way to get at these nuts, as there don't appear to be any easy access holes? I can cut the old nut/bolts off to get the six-cylinder mounts out, but how do you get new nuts inside the crossmember to bolt the small block mounts?

There are holes on the bottom side of the frame crossmember, to reach the nuts just use a socket with an extension. A good tip is to tape the socket on to the extension before you try removing the nuts, when you try to pull the socket out, it catches the side of the hole and the socket falls off down inside the frame.
