Harrison radiator small tag
« on: April 06, 2011, 02:14:47 AM »
Anyone know what the small "BG" tag is on this UK 23 inch 3-row?  It is on the driver side IH tank, so not the remnants of an overflow hose clip.  Radiator is believed to be original to a 67 LOS 11B, L48 with a/c.  Also, does the rail look correct for 67?  Looks like a cross between the 68 and 69 rails shown in the OEM cooling system report section.

Sure looks like an over flow clip.

It's too small for the radiator tag, about half the width of that.  Plus the original UK is still on the other tank where it belongs.  And it seems too wide for a hose clip, plus it doesn't show any signs of ever having any ears for the hose that could have later broken off.  I was thinking it might be a Harrison plant designation if they had several facilities.

Its on the wrong side to be an overflow clip, its on the drivers side tank, overflow is on the passenger side.  I beleive its the tag that designates what the core section of the radiator is, ie 21" or 23", 2 core, 3 core, pitch of the fins etc.  Don't know any source to confirm the various possible combinations.

I think it identifies a bad radiator and possibly prone to a mini explosion, so being a bomb expert I will go ahead and come down and take it from your hands, no thanks is needed, just doing my job   8)

Funny thing is, I always assumed this was an incorrect radiator ever since I bought the car back in 85, probably because it had the wrong a/c condensor.  Yeah, it's been one of those 25+ year projects.  I removed it last summer prepping for an engine swap and didn't really look at it until last month.  It was like Christmas in March.
