Required options for 68 RS/SS packages
« on: March 18, 2011, 05:40:44 PM »
Sorry if this has been brought up before, I've spent about 30 minutes and 15-20 pages of searching the threads and can't seem to find answers.

I know that Super Sport Package included special engine, dual exhaust, springs, tires, clutch, radiator, transmission (if 4-speed), axle and u-joints, starting motor, hood, badging, and stripes. Here's the question in 1968 did SS require power steering, power brakes, or disc brakes? Were there options required if other options were purchased, ie if you bought disc brakes did they have to be power?

And Rally Sport Package included Z21 plus fullwidth grille with concealed headlights, bright lower body side moldings instead of standard body side moldings, RS grille emblem (or SS), parking/turn signal lights below front bumper, Rally Sport front fender Z22 nameplate in place of Camaro nameplate, black finished lower body (except certain dark colors), RS (or SS) fuel cap, dual-unit taillights, backup lights below rear bumper, RS horn button (except Z23, Z87, N30,N34).

What about console guages weren't they required?

Front and rear spoilers- were they independant of either package?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

You didn't look in the right place!!  ;)

CAMARO OPTIONS

However, to answer your questions:

1. In 1968 did SS require power steering? No
2. in 1968 did SS require power brakes? No (except for the big block engines, and only then after 5/20/68 - RPO J50)
3. in 1968 did SS require disc brakes? No
4. in 1968 if you bought disc brakes did they have to be power? Yes (that's the only way they came)
5. Rally Sport front fender Z22 nameplate in place of Camaro nameplate ("rally-sport" emblems or "Camaro" and "SS" emblems if you ordered an SS)
6. What about console guages weren't they required? Optional (RPO D55)
7. Front and rear spoilers- were they independant of either package? Optional, and you could only get both as a package (RPO D80)
8. RS horn button... except L34, L35, L48, L78, L78/L89, N30, N34, Z23 and/or Z87

Hope this helps...
