7 Blade Temp Control Fan

Did 68 built 69 Camaros that came with this fan also have them date coded 69 or should they be date coded 68?

My understanding that there were two fan blades. One stamped and one that wasn't. The stamped one did specify the year (68 or 69) on the date code.

I guess I should have copied this onto my first post:

•The 3937779 fan was used early in the 69 production year (until approximately November of 68) and has the part number and month / year stamped on the fan blades.
•The 3947772 fan was used throughout the production year (and through the early 70's) and has the part number and month / year stamped on the fan blades.

Here is where I'm confused...The Camaro is a 12A {68} build. According to the information above, should my car have the 3947772 fan...Or is there insufficient data to pin down which of the two blades my car should have?  "Approx Nov 68" tells me there insufficient data to tell when the transition occurred.

My other question...If my car is suppose to have 3947772 (which it does have) what month should be stamped on it. Would it be Dec, prior to Dec, or can it be another month in 1969?

Thanks Ed

It could be either the unstamped fan or the 772 which *could* be dated 12/68, much more likely to be 11/68.

Marty, it is the unstamped fan, no part numbers or dates on the fan.  :)

Darn...was hoping to get a sense on when these blades were mass produced. My dilemma is that I have the correct blade but I'm pretty sure the date is way off...

Thanks Robert

You are right...

Anyone want to trade an excellent L69 for an L68? Mine is only off by a year...

You bring up an interesting point. A lot of car shows and their judges would never catch something like this. Many of the judges at these shows are only knowledgeable with regards certain makes. Even then, compared to members of this site are still lacking. If possible, I would like to here from AACA Judges and his or her experiences with judges of the same caliber. Are all judges {AACA} capable of evaluating every single item in the car for accuracy, and do they know how to decode every single numbered item down to the correct finish? Please be honest!

There was always an unstamped fan - that's how that supplier made them.
The only changeover was from the 779 & unstamped#1 to 772 & unstamped#2. They changed the pitch of the blades slightly.
