Would a 0421DZ stamped block be OK for a 6A car, it is a 654xxx vin which derives to first couple days in June so this stamp would be a little less than 6 weeks, is this acceptable Joe

All june cars are 06A, please be more specific with your own VIN.

Um what does that mean, I realize they are all 6A for june and the car inquestion is a june 3 or 4th car, the beginning 3 of the vin is 654xxx so with that info, which should be enough for a expert to calculate I believe, would a 0421DZ stamped block work  Joe

Too early, that would be good for an 04C or 05A Z28.  A 5/21 block would be much closer, of course outlyers (engines that got shuffled to the back of the pacK) are always around, but generally speaking it would be to early.

I like that, outlyer, so it would be a outlyer block, I am sure the first person I said that too would say, HUH ;)

Just Tell them that in the 60's they didn't use FIFO for the engines at the assembly plants.

Man, I know I'm gonna get it for this, but what does it matter, its not the original either way, but at least its a correct block.

Well here it  yes, I do not know if this means you are going to get it but here is my enjoyment of the hobby, I am pretty anal about all this, not a little anal,ALOT ANAL, I have 1 rule, whatever I put on the car belongs on or too the car, I just bought a 837 alt, original Jerry certified, paid 1100k for it, I had to have it because mine was incorrect and this one was correct, I bought a 480 dist 2 years ago, had to have it, mine was incorrect, bought 5-4-21 yh wheels, had to have them, mine were yw's, so I think alot of it is the hobby to me includes the hunt, that is almost the best part, the engine I have has a double stamp, yuck it is ugly, and not correct, now the important part, I have not said the word matching, I have said correct, so the question is, Is a 4/21 stamped motor correct for a first week 6A car :D

Just about everything I have read or saw was within a couple weeks of build date. For me personally it's too early. My car is 3 days off the build date.

block dates  •Block casting date must always be before engine assembly date.
•Block casting date is usually very close to engine assembly date.
•Engine assembly date must always be before vehicle (not body) assembly date.
•Engine assembly date almost always is before the Fisher Body cowl tag date. In the unusual case it is later, it should be within a week of the body.
•Engine assembly date most often less than 30 days before vehicle build.
•Engine assembly date less often 30-90 days before vehicle build.
•Odd exceptions of older blocks can occur.

Well here it  yes, I do not know if this means you are going to get it but here is my enjoyment of the hobby,

No I get it and the hobby has a place for all of us. I have a car like that, it is a PITA. My AAR fortunately was a 57k mile original complete car, the motor was warrantied in 72 and they installed a reg 340 short block, but it now has a service replacement T/A block now. I'm a day 2 guy but cant ignore the difference on a car like that. The rest of my junk if it fits and makes it go faster I'm in, I do like a stock appearance though. I think that is way the F.A.S.T. series intrigues me so much, although I"m not good enough to compete at that level. And yes everything I have heard, read or otherwise, indicates it should be within a few weeks of the scheduled production date.

Joe, I have a NOM car too. If the VIN is not stamped on the block then it really doesn't matter much what the date is. In my book the 4/21 block is as correct as any other out there. I would be more concerened about the condition of the block. I also boght date correct alt, dist etc. for my block. JMHO.

Joe,  for a 6A car, a correct block would be a 010 with a cast date in the area of 5-8 thru
5-14 and build date of 5-15 thru 5-24, as approximate dates.  Then you would have a
correct date block for your car.   If you like the hunt, dont quit looking for your original
block, unless you saw it junked.  Many cars have had replacement engines put in them
to hopefully increase their value to "almost" original engine car, but still not original.

Here is what I am going to hang my hat on, as we all know the assembly line was not a perfect world, I have the opportunity to buy a block with original broach and pad stamp, I will put it together with all the correct components and away we go, Thanks for all input  Joe :D
