CRG Research Topic - 1969 - 2 pc vs. 1pc KickPanel
« on: May 19, 2006, 03:39:13 PM »
One of the ongoing CRG research topics for 1969 is to identify when the early style 2 piece kick panel (removable screen, one screw at the bottom) was replaced with the later style 1 piece version.  Current thinking is perhaps sometime in January 1969.

From the CRG Research Topic List for 1969:
1969 Topics
We would like to better define when the following changes occurred:

1
.
.
.
7  Phase-in of the 1-piece 1969 kick-panels (January?).

My '69 RS, VIN 124379N581767; 01C Build has the early style, 2 piece kick panel.  See pictures below.  Based on the VIN number sequencing, my car was built somewhere (+/- 2 days) around the 19th of the month.

Those of you that are '69 owners, please check and see which version of the kick panel is in your car.

Regards,

Richard

I received the following in an e-mail  Re-posting here fyi.

01D, U200 range body sequence, 1969 Van Nuys built car that has the original 712 deluxe interior and the original black two piece kick panels. Current owner has owned the car since the late 80's and is confident that the kick panels are original to the car.

Reviewing all the data, looks like the changeover can be pinned down to the 02A week at NOR. Not enough LA data to say for sure when they started, could have been late 01D. At least by the end of the 02A week, both plants were using the one-piece units.

Anyone else with an 01D or 02A LA car? Or 02A NOR car?

Thanks for discussing this Rich!
