69 AM antenna
« on: January 27, 2014, 03:08:05 AM »
Hey guys need some help here. Would this be OK or not OK for a 69 Camaro? and...is it hard to replace the cable if I can use it. The auction indicates other 69 GM cars so I wouldn't think the Camaro would have a diifferent style. Whaddaya think?

The antenna top looked OK from what I could see...  but due to being from a larger car, the cable might be longer??   but I suspect that could be shorted if need be... :)

It does appear to be a round mast; difficult to see if it's eliptical as the Camaro mast should be. That would be a drawback if it was one I was looking at buying for a '69. If it's eliptical, why not (if you can get it for a good price) ?

Steve

It appeared to be an elliptical tip to me, but the angle/perspective made that a 'guess'....

Maybe it's the lighting or the crappy picture, but the tip looks "tear drop" to me.

I think he just took the photo at a bad angle / perspective; I sent a question and asked, he said it was elliptical..? but he didn't provide additional photos.   The 'lighting/glare' off the 'small edge' is what cued me to believe it was elliptical.  I think that is a good deal for an elliptical antenna if you don't have one... but do your own questions and determination; don't rely on mine..  :)

The 3934224 antenna mast was used on several models in 69 and 70 (including a few trucks!)

The only difference was the cable, so if it really was removed from a 69 or 70 full size car, it will be the correct mast for the 69 Camaro.

After waiting a couple of days for the 'other Gary' to buy that antenna, and he didn't..  I obtained it to check my 'guess' and show some of you wrong..  :)   The mast and tip appeared elliptical to me in the photos, and the owner confirmed it (as I had previously posted).  Upon checking and comparing to my original '69 antenna mast, it is identical.  Most of the other parts associated with the mounting are also identical, although I suspect the antenna cable is longer for the Impala/Caprice; my camera antenna cable is still installed and isn't easy to check length.

OK...rub it in why don't ya...I was sick in bed with bronchitis and pneumonia. I would have bought it if it wasn't for that.
