Donor cars for a Tremec 5 speed tranny?
« on: May 17, 2006, 12:21:56 PM »
I would like to try and get a 5-speed from a donor car.  I hear all this info about WC and NWC tremec transmissions.  What does that mean.  Also, what donor cars should I look for to get a good 5 speed tremec manual transmission that will hold up with a 500hp motor?

Thanks.

None of the factory-installed Tremecs (except the T56 in the Viper) will survive behind a 500hp motor; you'll need a T56 or a TKO600 like Keisler Engineering offers.

Check this out!  www.5speedtransmissions.com/index.html  Click on the 5 speed section on the left and select GM TKO package.  By the time you break a couple of Muncies this will seem not so unreasonable.  Also study the comparison to the Richmonds.  I've personally seen a couple of these things in action.  That TKO 600 is impressive and also has a couple of options for overdrive ratio.  Dave

Jamie Passion is creating a new Muncie 5-speed so please contact them.

And there is a new MOPAR A833 5-speed out now that you might find interesting.

And A833's came stock in some of our mid '80's trucks.

I want to say that these are both 800 T trannys!
