John:

I asked some similar questions over on the Team Camaro site regarding Z ed specific Pitman & Idler numbers - you may want to go to the attached link below and see what many other Z 2/8 owners over there responded with...
The thread was about Z 2/8 ownership and I guess I got them off topic about 8 or 9 pages into the thread with Piman questions...

The 3908391 long pitman arm was used in 68 Z28's. Other 68 Camaros used the 3935075, 5.25" long, pitman arm (both manual and power steering). The idler arm for 68 was 3917581, 5.25" long."

Chick did this get figured out, My 68 Manual Z also has the 075 & from the .net thread quoted 'others' have reported the same.

Hi Jim, sorry for late reply.... After confirming other Z/28's had the same 075 as mine I never worried or researched further. It seems both 3908391 & 3935075 were used but we know a lot of NOR cars had the 075 for whatever.

                                    Pitman       Idler       Steering arms
Darrell  12D LOS man  3908391     replaced
Jim       12D LOS man  3935075
Chick    01B NOR man  3935075  3741383
Jeff       02D NOR man  3935075
Joe        03E LOS man  3908391
ggtsvnv 04A NOR man  3935075
never2  04D NOR man  3908391  3917581

Chick has a short pitman with a long idler.
never2many has a long pitman and a short idler.
Missing the logic so far. :)

We need more data - on all 3 components.

Is the different length pitman arm the way they differentiated between regular, and quick ratio steering?

Steering arm - 391
Do you mean pitman, idler, or steering arm??  I thought steering arm, but now I think you meant pitman.

Realizing we had a terminology problem.
Pitman - attached to steering box
Idler - attached to subframe, mirrors the pitman
Steering arms - connected to the outer tie rod and attached to the hub assembly, we haven't posted data on them, but there are several versions.
