'67-'69 Camaro COWL PANEL
« on: November 28, 2010, 10:25:08 PM »
'67-'69 Camaro COWL PANEL(Top Vent with Grills Panel--where windshield wipers come out)-----How do I tell an Original GM Panel from a reproduction panel??  There are no numbers I can find. The thicknesses of the 2 panel seem to be .038/.044" on the original GM panel; and .032/.039" on the reproduction panel. Probably the thicker one is the GM??  Not real sure.  Both panels look the same to me.   I need help on this one please.

Another FYI,

'67's are different than '68-69's.  There are little ribs on the '68-69's where the 90 degree bend is.

67s have a round wiper-motor hole also. 68-69s are oval.

binky...Last time I checked you could still buy them from Chevrolet. Try checking at gmpartsdirect.com or your Chevy dealer.

Thank you all for your help and replies. But I'm still kinda unclear about an Orig. GM cowl panel vs. a reproduction panel. Are all the lines the same??   Does the reproduction panel have 'smoother' lines and not 'so defined' corners??   Are the 'ribs', probably stamping die marks I think, only common to the Orig. GM panel??

Two reinforcement ribs close to the out cowl screw holes on each side where the 1/4" "E" head screws fasten to mount the cowl panel down.  Must be a 1968 mid year introduction as my early 11E build white '68 Z28 does not have them.  My 03A car does.  The Strickler does does have them, 04A build.

Find a good used one that matches the correctnes of the build date of your car.  That is what I would do.  They are out there.

Good luck,

Jerry

What year are you looking for ? If a 69 just get the real GM one. You can probably find used at swap meets for 20.00 or at GMpartsdirect.com they are  GM PART # 3891610
PACK QTY: 1    CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $255.02
OUR PRICE: $153.47
DESCRIPTION: COWL GRILLE PANEL

I think blackout Steve is talking about the upper part of the firewall that has the hole for wiper motor.

Thanks, boy was that simple.  Now about Original Header panels('67-'69). The '67 and the '68 seem to be the same. The '69 has more of a "V" shape to it. What are the differences on an orig. GM panel and a reproduction panel?? Can you help on this subject??
Merv.

Good project for CRG, find out what month that cowl panel transition was during the '68 model year.

Great idea.  My 02C Van Nuys built '68 Z/28 has the ribs on the cowl panel.
