68 4-speed saginaw reverse light switch
« on: November 24, 2010, 05:23:15 PM »
Does anyone know what switch was used on a 4-speed Saginaw transmission? I have a 68 Saginaw transmission, but not sure it has the right side cover. Please help and if you have a picture that is even better. Thanks, Brad

The Saginaw and Muncie used the same switch, with a different bracket to attach it to the side cover bolts. See your Assembly Manual, section M20, sheet A7, View "A".

Thanks John, now If I could find the 2 switches I would be happy, but the impossible search continues

All of the usual suppliers have the switch, but the Saginaw mounting bracket may be more difficult to find. Try NPD, Classic, Firewheel, Ground Up, etc.

Thanks John, I am continuing the search. Seems like the high performance cars are easier to find parts for and they made a lot more of the standard cars like I have. Question.... I have a 68RS with a 327/275 with a 12 bolt rear end. ALL of the numbers match, but the trans is a Muncie (non-matching) Did they ever use a munice on this car? The transmission I have is a 68 camaro transmission, but not the correct serial # for my car.

What is the # on the trans?  Post in orphans.

68Z, I will post the Muncie I have in Orphans after I take the car apart to restore it. Right now it is a street car. But it is not chopped up. I will have to write the number down and post it at that time.

Sounds good.  I'm always on the lookout for my engine and if the car's around, someone might like to have that tranny when you're ready.

FYI to all. The switch bracket on my car is the right bracket for the saginaw. It has 2 sets of holes that fit the saginaw and the muncie. After viewing the picture Boston14 sent me I inspected the car I have at home and it has the same bracket, but it is mounted to the Muncie that is in the car. The car is a L30 M20 car and originally had a saginaw. I am going to have a fabricator that does quite a bit of work for me at my business fabricate some of these if anyone else needs any I will have them. Thanks Boston14 for the pictures! It has helped me solve my puzzle.
