Hi I am new here and I have a 6 cylinder 1969 Camaro
« on: November 07, 2010, 02:03:36 AM »
Hi there I am new here and I am in the process of just starting a minor restoration on my Camaro. I am looking forward to learning a lot here and getting good advice for my restoration. I will ask the appropriate questions in the appropriate sections. Here are a few pictures. I have a build thread I started at Team Camaro.

I am planning on fixing some rust issues. 4 main locations. Front Dash/Window Channel, Rear Deck Corners/Window Channel, Rear Passenger Quarter, Front Passenger Fender. Car had had at least one repaint. From what I can tell car is very original for the most part. I bought the car from the original owner a little 88 year old lady. I have all of the GM of Canada docs plus protecto plate.

Any and all advice is very welcome.

Is the trim tag is for a 8 cylinder white car and the documentation for a Hugger Orange Z/28???

Nice looking car. I'd drive it, daily. :)

Can you also post a pic of the POP?

Sure Kurt I will scan it and post it. I like the fact that the name on the POP is the name that was on the transfer documents to me. Nice to be the second owner of the car. I have a build thread on Team Camaro if you want to check it out. Do you guys do build threads here? I am new and have not looked around that much yet. I also have the GM of Canada paperwork. Lots of various chalk marks as well. Just about to give it a repaint. It has had at least one previous repaint. Also had the stamps on the firewall. first time I have ever seen those in original form. Pretty original car other than the repaint. Only non origial parts are the 2 rear partial quarters. Had to be changed due to rust. Let me know if you need any other info before I get too deep into it. Love this site by the way.

The trim tag posted shows a V8 car.

There is nothing on that trim tag indicating a V8 car.

Field c - body style code 12xx7 (See also this explanation of why the Fisher style and VIN prefix differed.)
The two digit year ("67," "68," or "69") was followed by a five-digit "ST" body style code, e.g. 12437. The first two digits of the style code are the model code ("12") and the last two digits are body code ("37" for coupe and "67" convertible).
While the Fisher style code is often confused with the first five digits of the VIN, the two codes are different because of the different meaning of the third digit. In 1967, the third digit of the style code was set to "4" for standard interior or "6" for custom interior (e.g. a style code for a 67 convertible with custom interior would be 12667). In 1968-69, the third digit was fixed at "4" for all models (L6 and V8) and had no meaning.

What's the trans code? I squinted and I still can't quite read it.

Nice that it got the TH350 trans. Not common in a L6 car.

Hey Kurt where do I find the trans code? I can look at the POP. The car has a few cool options for a six. I wonder what was the most optioned six. Any ideas? I sent you a PM on TC.

Trans code is located right above the name Lesley on the POP.
Same code is stamped on the trans pan too.

Hi Kurt here is the trans code, X8K10. That is reading it backwards to front. I think that's it. Probably not to many of these left. It is very original. I have tons of pictures I took of it if you need any info. Some parts of this car are almost like new. Still has original carpet I think, interior also. I am curious about the trunk paint. Other than that it seems pretty intact. All feedback and advice welcomed and appreciated.
