Subject 69 SS/RS cowl hood car.


A friend of mine just had his motor rebuilt and ran it about 1,500 hundred miles. He now has decided he wants to do a full restoration therefore putting the motor up for about a year. He is concerned that the Ethanol in the gas will harm the carb or motor. He is also just generally concerned of having the new motor sitting up for a year.
My fresh 302 sat up for over a year while I restored my 69 Z but that was in 2007, maybe the ethanol issue then was not a bad, who knows? In any case I had no problems but wanted other thoughts.

Anyway if ya'll could way in on this I would appreciate it.

The block and heads may be fine, but I think your friends carburetor will have a difficult time making it a year as the gas will dry up and the gaskets will dryout.  It will leak gas all over the intake manifold when you try to start the car.  I think that if you just let an engine sit for a year you will at least need to put a rebuild kit on the carb all else may be ok.   I don't think the ethanol will require any other extra attendion.  Undecided

I have seen motor storage bags advertised. Don't know how much good they do. Carb could probably be drained and bagged by itself.

Run some race gas through it before he takes it out.

Just turn the carb upside-down and dump the fuel out, and don't worry about it. I've had numerous engines sit for a year or so, and they don't require any special care beyond taping over the intake pad and exhaust ports; avoid a humid storage environment.
