Engine Hold down cable
« on: September 06, 2011, 01:22:45 AM »
I don't know what the recall part is properly called, but I am trying to get a good picture of the small cable that was attached to the exhaust manifold then attached to the upper control arm. So the engine would not torque to far over during hard acceleration and binding the accelrator rod. I have a nice one from a small block Impala that I would like to use on m Z28 but don't know if it will work.
any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Lawrence

Engine lift stop cable, also sometimes referred to as a stop lift kit.  They were recently discussed over at the TC site, probably here as well if you search.

They are a bandaid (and an abomination). Instead of replacing the engine mounts with an interlocking design, Chevrolet went the cable route - cause it was cheaper and required on millions of recallled cars.

I'd put in good engine mounts and forget the cable. It never came factory on any car.

I believe it has also been mentioned on this site that for any judged event, points will be deducted for having the kit installed, even though it was a recall.  Has to be how it left the factory, pre-recall.

This is why I was going to put it on. With this info I will just leave well enough alone.
