Ignition buzzer and glove box installation
« on: October 04, 2010, 01:43:31 AM »
Did 68 Camaros have the ignition buzzer installed and if so was it all models. Is there any specific way to install glove box as mine wont go in. Do you have to remove the heater duct in front of console and come in from underneath?

The buzzer is in the voltage regulator.  So, they all came with it.  I don't recall ever seeing a different part for a VR w/o it.?.?

I'm pretty sure the glove box is put in from the back side.

It's internal to the horn relay.

Nope. It's in the horn relay.

Does anyone know what makes the ignition buzzer work on a four speed car? I know there is a contact in the column but does it have anything to do with the clutch switch or the reverse light switch. I checked the wiring diagram in the AIM but it crosses 3 pages and is not very clear. The reverse linkage from the column to the trans is not on my four speed car due to headers and the clutch switch is evidently not connected either. On my automatic car it does work when you open the door with the key in but that car has working reverse lights and no clutch switch.

There's no connection in that circuit to the transmission backdrive linkage or clutch switch; only from the plunger switch in the door jamb through the contacts in the ignition switch to the buzzer in the horn relay. The buzzer doesn't care what transmission is in the car or what gear it's in - onlly whether the jamb switch and ignition switch contacts are closed.
