Were the inside of the quarter panels in the trunk undercoated before the spatter paint was applied?

I'll guess before someone who knows replies.  No undercoating was applied from the factory (dealer only?).  Plus, I don't think anyone has ever used it inside a panel.?.?  I believe the inside of the quarters would be primer from the dipping process(es)...

I believe he is talking about the undercoating-looking sound deadener that was sprayed on the inside of the door panels and quarter panels.
Not sure about the 69s, but my 68 had it on the inside of the quarters in the trunk area before the spatter paint was done.

My '69 had it in the doors and quarters and was applied before spatter paint.

Yes - each side got a spray of sound deadener prior to the spatter paint.

Wow, crazy!  I guess that tar like substance in my trunk was undercoating?  Looking forward in the quarters about even w/ the back seat, all I see is some surface rust...  I guess I'll have to look closer now that I know what to expect.

This is interesting.  This question is in regards to a 68 Firebird, so I figured it would also apply to a Camaro.

While I got more responses here, the couple of responses I got from the "First Gen Firebird" site said there was no undercoating applied.  I find it hard to believe there would be a different process at the Fisher plant for Camaros and Firebirds.

I am waiting for a response from a guy who has an original, unmolested Firebird.  Curious to see what he comes up with.

Thanks everyone!
