attaching 68 grille to lower valance
« on: August 03, 2010, 09:15:20 PM »
I searched the forum here and can't find what I'm looking for. Can anyone tell me what was used to attach the 68 standard grille to the lower valance? The assembly manual appears to show that it used bolts and nuts but it looks like that would be very difficult to assemble. I'm planning to use clip on nuts on the plastic grille and sheet metal screws.

TIA, Mike.

Just replaced my original '68 non RS grill with a new one (the old one was getting warped & brittle).  Old center grill section still had the original lower clips on it. On mine, the center grill to valance panel uses clips and sheet metal screws.  Can't guarantee it came from the factory this way as I'm not the original owner, but think this is the first time the old grill has been out if the car.  The center grill to lower grill (flat black aluminum strip is secured with nuts).

J or U nuts - 10-16, 13/32" from center of hole to the bend of the nut
