Not to give anything away...but if you guys want to see how you can tell a a real tag from the one pictured here...just take a look at the tag on your car and compare it. It was a nice education for me and after a few minutes, it is painfully obvious how bad this fake is. Sometimes things can be too perfect and the old style fonts will never truly be copied properly. Kinda like no matter how hard the parts suppliers try, a repro part just never seems to be as good as the original.
I guess good advice if you are going to lay some serious money down on a first gen, give Jerry or another expert a call. It may not be as expensive as you think, especially if it keeps you from being had. I can speak first hand that Jerry has saved literally tens of thousands of dollars on one particular Camaro that was misrepresented.
I miss the good old days when only the Corvette guys had to worry about this sort of nonsense and our Camaros were just cheap Corvette wannabes. When you could buy a $500 basket case and quickly get upside down in it.
