68 Venezuelan Camaro
« on: January 30, 2010, 10:10:39 PM »
Hi
I've got a 1968 camaro Vin # 12437HC108713, TR 724, Paint 697-123.
I know that the car was assemble in caracas and comes with red standard interior. But thats the only thing I know about it. Can someone can tell me what is that paint code? PPG code or dupont code?. Where I can find info on my original option( engine, trans, drivetrain)
thanks at advance!

Hi & Welcome -

Congratulations!  Caracas Camaros are very rare.  Have you read these CRG threads?

How original is the car?  Can you please post some photos of your car?

Alex,
697-123 is possibly a Dupont number. But normally they are longer and with different first 3 numbers, like 926-96908. I've only seen one other Caracas car that had that style of paint code. The others had either 8 or 9 digits.

Is the engine, transmission, or axle original? I'm guessing the engine and trans are not -  http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1246548#post1246548
http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml shows where the axle code is stamped if it is original.

Hi
This is not the original motor and trans. but the rear end I think it is original, I'll check it out this week. I looked on many paint sites including dupont and no ones had this code in there list. Did the other car with the same code style found his original color? With the inerior red, what combinaisons is possible? black on red...white on red.. ??
Thanks

The other car was coded 697-102.

If you pull up the scuff plates and lift up the carpet, you'll probably be able to see the original color. Also, look up in the underside of the trunk, that normally has some paint left too.

I have the original rear end! casting date:E168. an originaly have a 2.73 gear but now it is a 3.08. I found my original exterior paint. I know it was red, just like the interior. Did they have many variation of the color or it's only the matador red paint.

What's the rear axle code?  The rear axle code stamp location is shown at the following link...  http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#axle

The only normally available red in 68 was Matador Red. You'd have to have a sample to compare or have your paint color scanned to see if it was a match or not.
