Replacement of front springs 69 Z28
« on: April 19, 2010, 10:51:40 PM »
Does anyone know what are the best front springs to use ? My front ones do not sit at the same level. I beleive that they had been changed out many years ago, with B/B OR S/B with air. I am looking to keep this car stock (69 Z28 X77) 01B Norwood. Thanks for any help or info you can supply!

Go to Moog's website and see what is there. I have Moog on my car, but bought them from an individual. I am real happy with them.

Phil,

Others can chime in, but as far as I know, no replacement spring will result in the correct height without cutting them. It will sit too high. With Jerry's help, I removed my springs last year and we cut a full loop out. After re-sinstalling, we determined the car still sits about 1/2 - 3/4 too high. In early May, we will be removing them again and cutting another half loop out. At the time, I also plan to remove the black paint and paint them with natural metal paint, which is the correct finish.

Best of luck,

John

Eaton Detroit makes the springs to order and will ask a lot of questions about your optional equipment before they will build them.
I believe they were the original supplier.

There is no connection between the original spring supplier (Eaton Corporation, which is still in business and is a major OEM supplier of chassis components to the industry) and Eaton Detroit Spring, which is a full-service spring shop in Detroit specializing in manufacture of both coil and leaf springs which are no longer stocked by the OEM's, and springs for classic and custom applications. They just share the same name.

Do you know what the part number was on your Moog springs. I have not seen you lately, and I guess no one is meeting at the Arboretum
anymore. Do you still have all your pictures from your restoration?
