Too good to be true, probably.
« on: January 26, 2010, 06:46:03 PM »
Thanks to a friend of mine,I just got off the phone with a man who used to own the dealership where my JL8 car was bought brand new.Long story short he thinks there is a slim chance he may have paperwork on it. Very Slim.but he is going to look this weekend. I told him the paperwork is very valuable to me and I would pay alot for it. He said he would give them for free, and I said again how much more valuable the car would be with the factory paperwork, and I would pay alot, so he looks real hard.. He remembers the car well and said he actually sat in it before it was delivered. Remembers the buyer, the salesman, the whole story, all of it.

I had called the dealership years ago looking for paperwork, which was renamed Meier chevrolet in 92, from Feese-George Chevrolet as it was in 69 in Sullivan Mo  .They told me all docs were only kept 7 years. And they  never had the ones from 69.Thought that was end of the line.

The owner of the dealership in 69 till 92 told me he destroyed alot of paperwork when the dealership sold, but still has some in a building, not sure what though.Mr Feese is genuinely  intersted in seeing the car again. Its hard to beleive a dealer would remember a car from 40 years ago that was in that day, just a new car.

Probably too good to be true.To me it would be like winning the Lottery.

Hope this works out for you.
As a fellow JL8 owner, it is really special to have some real proof of your car being 1 of the 206 ordered from the factory!
Good luck!

Chris, We are pulling for you! I tried the same thing a few years ago and, when I asked about documentation on cars sold in 1969 ,they laughed at me. Oh, well.

In my case, the dealership located in Mount Holly, NJ is no longer in business. It had been sold years ago. I forget the dealership name, but have it written down somewhere. I often thought about driving up to NJ from MD just to go by the address. Apparently, this dealer was one of the ones accused of selling Camaros to vets in Vietnam. When the vets returned home, no car for them.

Maybe we can all help each other in these quests?

John, I'm in NJ. Whats the address? I'm not in that area very often, but if I go by I will try to get you a photo for what it may be worth.

Tom, That would be outstanding! The dealership's name was Kardon Chevrolet. My documentation is at the shop, which is in a different location. I'll be there this weekend and will get the full address. Thanks for your help.

Tom,

The address of the old Kardon Chevrolet is listed as Rte. 38, Mount Holly, NJ. That's the best I have got.

Tom,

Thanks very much. Kardon is gone. However, Lucas Chevrolet is still there. Lucas purchased the dealership from Mike Kardon in 1996. Kardon kept all of his records. I left a message for the owner of Lucas today to see if he can point me to the Kardon family. Mike Kardon has since passed away.

Chris: please excuse me for hijacking your post. Any luck?
