speedometor cable lube procedure
« on: November 12, 2009, 12:30:03 AM »
whats the best way to lube a speedo cable?   i have heard you can pull out the inner part , lube it and put it back. is this true?  can it be pulled out from ther trans or does it have to come out from the top?  any help would be great, right now i am getting an annoying amount of noise coming from the cable. thanks in advance

just disconnect the cable behind the tachometer (after remove this one) and fill with a good oil
proceed like that several times, the gravity just help you to oil all the length of the cable.

Remove the cable from the top end (it won't come out from the bottom end), disconnect it at the speedo adapter at the trans end, and blow out the housing with compressed air from the top. Wipe off the flex shaft to get the old caked-up stuff off, apply graphite-based speedo cable lube to the flex shaft, wipe off the excess, re-insert the flex shaft into the housing and connect to the speedo head, then re-connect the cable/housing to the speedo adapter at the trans end. If you can't find graphite-based speedo cable lube at your auto parts store, Corvette Central sells it as "Kable-Ease".
