1968 Astro Ventillation ball finish

I have what I think are the original astro vent balls for in dash air conditioning and they have a black finish on the flat portion of the fins. The chrome plating is crazed so I bought a set of reproductions. The repros do not have any masked black painted areas on the fins.

I would like to confirm what the orignal vent balls should look like and if any one has recommendations for a replacement or restoring originals.

This is on an 07D 1968 AC car.

They were black on the inside. You must have the cheaper repros as the ones from Rick's (CHQ) have the correct finish on the fins. Don't try to tape them off to be painted as the clear lacquer that is sprayed over the chrome on those cheap ones will come off with removal of the tape....been there, done that.............RatPack..................
