If I remember correctly the Chevy ll rear is 1" narrower. which is great for tire clearance in a Camaro

I can tell you the nova and camaro 12 bolt axle shafts are the same part#.   68-71 nova and 67-69 camaro=part#3969349  30 splines 29 1/2 OL.

I am not sure but I believe the 68 nova rear is the same as a camaro.  The 67 and earlier nova rears were more narrow than a camaro.

according to "Chevrolet by the Numbers, 1965-1969" by colvin:

"1967 through 1969 camaro.
This rear end assembly is a Salisbury design similar to the 1968 chevy II rear axle. The differential does not have the upper control arm mounting 'ears' that are cast into the Chevelle center section. All 1967 Camaro rear axles are mounted on mono-leaf springs. The leaf spring pedestal mounting on the rear axle is the same as was used in the (see below) Chevy II, although the mounting pads are slightly canted or tilted inward."

the book quotes "1967" here, but when i compare the axle specs from the book, i believe it is a misprint as the axle width and spring perch centerlines are different. However the 1968-69 Nova specs are the same as the Camaro's.

thanks guys for the info . my book says they are the same dimension and spec wise.it was just that similar phrase that threw me for a loop .just making sure that there wasnt a physical difference in case i find one at a swap meet that i could identify as a nova or camaro. thanks again

Sorry for the wrong info I didn't catch the 68 Chevy II reference. When I think of Chevy II's I think of 63-67, 68-72's are Nova's in my mind. 63-67's are the narrower ones. 68-72 should be a direct swap with a Camaro.

My interchange book shows 67 - 69 Camaro, 68 - 71 Nova & 71 Pontiac Ventura II all using part number 3981672 for 12 bolt rear.
