1967 Big Block, Black out tail pan...
« on: May 18, 2009, 02:59:38 AM »
Can anyone supply pics or references to the start and stop of the black out of the tail pan?   I know how it comes out of the truck area, just not where it stops on the back.

Thanks,

Mike

What am I looking at?  Is that the black out that comes "over" the lip of the truck?  And is that original?  Also, is the rest of the truck lip to be body color?

Yes that is the black that extends over lip , Yes that is orignal. yes the trunk lip is black from left to right. What the pic. is showing is if you draw a stright line from where the trunk lip black is to the bottom edge of where the qtr.panel & the tail pan meet that is how it was taped off . Not following the tailpan to qtr. panel seam , like I have seen alot of them redone .

I don't know why it just registered, but I know what you mean now.  Thank you for the help.  And your correct, most show cars have it wrong.

But does it follow the seam on the front of the pan and it so, when does it stop.

It stops in the middle of the bumper holes on the tail pan, the lower part under the bumper is body color.

This is the correct angle based on the original paint on your tail pan, some ran directly over the top of the raised hump where the trunk bumper hits...

Thank you so much....

Helps greatly.

Still trying to decide on black paint.  I have bumble bee on front and think I will use the same glossy clear, but might use a flat clear to get.

Any opinions?

Hi, Could I get a picture from the rear of the car?  Do you mean that what's "wrong" is that the paint isn't brought up over the lip?  Or that something is wrong w/ the rear panel as well?

There are many ways to do it wrong & one way to do it right. I just did mine the way it wasfrom the factory. but as it was said before the angle could vary a little bit ( depending on who masked the area off).

Page 4, reply #45. There are others besides this pic, you'll have to dig. http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=2458.45

Thanks for the replies!  OK, the pictures I've seen pretty much match up w/ what I've seen from hunting around forums (more or less) like this one.  I was just trying to get a image of what the words in the text above look like.  One of those, "A picture is worth a thousand words" things...  I'm pretty sure I know how it's supposed to look, now.
