"A fabric-reinforced self-adhesive foam rubber "dam" was extruded" That must be what I am thinking of. What was it extruded out of ?

Charley, the fabric-reinforced foam rubber dam was furnished on a large spool, and was extruded through a dispensing tip that applied a hot contact adhesive on it immediately before it was actually applied to the glass surface; the adhesive cured almost instantly.
