SB 350 running temp
« on: April 27, 2009, 05:14:02 PM »
Any ideas,

This is on a 295 hourse 350 with a 180 degree thermostat. no major modifications - factory 194 valve steel heads, mild bore (355), different cam, roller rockers.

I had been running an early vette high rise intake with the temperature sending unit on the front of the intake next to the water neck.
I decided to switch everythng back to a stock look and installed the original 803 intake that came with my 68.

In doing this, I moved the temperature sending unit to the drivers side head to get a more accurate reading. I figured it would read higher from here but did not suspect this high.

Before the change the temp was running 190 average. After the change to the head it is reading 210 average with a 5 degree rise and a 5 gree drop.

How hot is over heating? is it 250?
How close can you get to that without a problem?
Where would the temp be measured from factory?
Any idea what a typical reading at the head would be?

Thanks again,
John

Problem solved. Sticking thermostat was off by 10 degrees. Replaced and also added Water wetter which together dropped the temp by 20 degrees.
