In the plant, a thin bead (about 1/8" or so) of black sealer was applied to the WS trough with a flow tip all the way around the opening prior to installing the WS; its purpose was to act as a sealer between the bottom of the WS and the bottom of the trough.

The GM first and second design W/S still turns up on Ebay quite a bit.  I tell all of my customers who own nice cars to be patient and try to install this W/S.  Not the repro junk!
