What is this knob on my lower left dash on my 1968?
« on: January 27, 2009, 03:06:04 PM »
My car is a project so I am just disovering things here and there. Can someone tell me what this knob does? It doesn't feel like it is connected. I pulled it part of the way out and there is an arm on it. Thanks for your help.

It controls air flow through the vent, that is, when it's connected to the flap on the other end.

Does my car have this because it is Astro Ventilation or do they all have it?

Yes, that system was called Astro Ventilation.  The knob is connected to a tube that has a flapper valve to open and close air flow and that tube is connected with a flex tube that connects to the cowl.

Hold on Buddy. My 67 has it. What do you mean that 67 did not have it.

I had a 68 Camaro with air conditioning and I don't remember it having that rod. I still have the entire dash in the attic and I could go take a look at it later.

My 67 non-a/c Camaro does not have either the lever or the "vent balls", BUT I think if your Camaro came with air conditioning in 67 it did get the "vent balls" but I am not sure about the rods.

I can only say that my 68 Camaro is a non-A/C and has the Astro Ventilation. To add to this confusion, my 69 Chevelle factory A/C car has Astro Ventilation badge on the dash...

67's without A/C had no vent balls; 67's WITH A/C had outlet vent balls, but no rods.

68's without A/C had Astro Ventilation - vent balls with rods. 68's WITH A/C had outlet vent balls, but no rods.
