Back-up Light Switch
« on: March 16, 2009, 01:20:24 AM »
I need advice on the backup light switch for my '67 Camaro, 327 cid, M-21 trans, Hurst 4-speed linkage.  The car I bought doesn't seem to have one.  What does the original look like and where is it located?  What does the factory harness plug look like?  Are there equivalent after-market switches that would work?  Photos or web site references would also be helpful.
Thanks,
Joe

Welcome Joe -

You need to buy a '67 Camaro Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM)...  http://store.heartbeatcity.net/store/product/16697/Assembly-Manual%2C-1967/
This manual will answer your above questions.

Yes, there are reproduction backup lamp switches available...  http://store.heartbeatcity.net/store/product/12744/Muncie-backup-switch-assembly/

Have fun!

Joe -

I found a thread at Team Camaro with a couple of photos in it that will show you where the switch mounts on the transmission side cover...

On a '68 the factory harness plug is hanging under the center of the dash. Look for a round black plug with 2 90-degree terminals inside. The wires will both be green. This is for a console car--a non-console car may be different. Hope this helps!

Not with a Muncie transmission!  The connector that the backup lamp switch harness plugs into is on the firewall behind the left valve cover and below the wiper motor.
