I have installed both 2nd gen and 4th gen steering columns in a 69 Camaro. The second gen was easy. The only thing I had to do was grind off the firewall plate, which is tacked on with a couple of spot welds. I then added the first gen firewall cover in place, which is bolt on. If you can find one from a later 2nd gen, you can have your bright switch on the column as well as tilt. The 4th gen is not as simple. The 4th gen is longer. Since I was upgrading to a rack and pinion, I did not have to worry about the length. Also, I had to cut off the column bracket that holds it in place and weld on the one form a first gen. Otherwise, it fit and looks good, with all of the advantages of the 4th gen column such as tilt, wiper motor, etc.
