camaro markings
« on: October 12, 2008, 01:54:11 PM »
I have noticed that on some of the restorations, there is an orange stripe painted vertically across the frame on the drivers side just in front of the stablilzer bar.  What did this stand for, and in what part of assemble was this put on.  thanks  Pete

The plant didn't paint anything on the subframe, but some restorers are obsessed with "restoration graffiti".  ::)

The stripe is commonly found, but I have no idea what it signifies.

"restoration graffiti".  ::)

I like that term. I'll use that with my customers when I get the same ole paint marking question. They get so caught up in being correct I almost hate to tell then the truth about most of the "graffiti". Thanks for the new term.

I have found many original non restored frames with the red/orange stripe on the drivers side rail, along with grease pencil marks like "'X" on the same rail. I have also seen date codes on the passenger side front rail in both white or yellow. The above picture posted by Ram Air Dave is very typical of what I have seen. Certainly not restoration graffiti as suggested by John Z...BKH

JohnZ,
Would it be possible that a line worker used this to indicate something to another co-worker during a shift change (a start or finish of a particular procedure)?
The tire would have covered it up and none the wiser.
Just curious.

No markings were applied to the subframe at Norwood or Van Nuys - the marks noted were most likely applied by the subframe supplier.

This came from the red CRG box in the upper right corner.  Click on it and you will see headers above it.   Lot's of great information.
