1969 standard (non-RS) grill trim
« on: October 08, 2008, 10:57:24 PM »
Hi all. I'm looking for a bit of info for model car detailing.

On the '69 standard grill (non-RS), did ALL of them include the bright trim pieces around the outer edge of the grill? In pictures of non-RS SS cars, the trim stands out clearly against the black grill, but it's hard to tell if it's there in pictures of argent-colored grills. I also don't know if this trim was part of the Z21 Style Trim group along with the headlight trim. (?) I've dug through all the books and magazines I have with '69 Camaros, and it seems that the few pictures of non-RS SS cars all have the Style Trim.

So, would a standard-grill car (plain, COPO or SS) have the grill trim if the car did not have the Style Trim?

Thanks.

All non-RS grilles arrived at the plant with the bright surround molding already installed; the plant masked off the molding and the portion of the grille inboard of the molding and painted the outer portion body color.

Hey John, was this on ALL silver grills? I see so many 69s with grills that are completely silver with no body color at all. Are they incorrect?
Thanks.

Yes, they're incorrect - most likely service replacements (which came all silver) where the owner didn't bother to mask and paint body color outboard of the bright moldings.

Wow, there's a lot of fussy, high dollar, concourse restos that overlooked that one.

What decided the application of black or silver/argent grills?

Very nice ride Hakan!
It's refreshing to see one with steel wheels, body color paint and dog dish caps.
Too many rally wheels and SS mags floating around for my taste. I'm an "old timer" who remembers that "back in the day" most of the Camaros came with wheel covers or hub caps.
