Help with parking brake light
« on: October 01, 2008, 09:41:10 PM »
I installed all new paking brake cables on my 68 today, and I have no light that comes on the dash,(with the brake on) the switch behing the pedal only has one wire to it, so I asume it breaks a circuit to trigger the light, but I dont know if I shoud have power at the switch or not, the bulbs in the dash left to right are low fuel, turn signal, then brake, I looked under the dash and it seems the bulb socket for the brake light is a little off center and has a diffrent type socket, it was hard to get to so I though I would post before tearing thing apart
Thanks in advance
Lane

There's a tan wire on the end of the plunger switch on the side of the parking brake bracket; it should have 12 volts on it any time the key is "on". When you step on the parking brake pedal, the plunger switch grounds the circuit, and power flows through the "Brake" bulb. See left side of the photo below.
