1969 Z/28 5 leaf rear springs
« on: September 20, 2008, 04:28:07 PM »
If a 69 Z/28 came with the optional 5 leaf rear springs would they still have the Z/28 yellow (BM) code tag or would they have the BB 5 leaf code tag which I believe is a yellow (BK) code tag?  Thanks,  Sam

Any spring would have the tag that matches that spring part #.

Thanks Kurt. I assume it gets the (BK) tag.  Sam

I should add I've never seen a 69 Z with 5 leafs. There was no spring option for Z's.
Not to say they couldn't exist, but the service spring tables clearly show only one part for Z's, BM.

This is a good question for Jerry. :)

Kurt, what was the difference between the three front springs for Z/28?  The rate, free length?
Gary

Lemans Blue X33. DZ, M20, manual steering. Only BU code rear end is original.

It must be rate. The AMA submission shows the same design height (height at design load) for standard V-8 and Z/28 springs, but the Z/28 springs have a shorter overall (unwound) coil length and larger bar diameter. Free length of a coil spring is essentially meaningless - coil springs are rated at their design load, not at free length.
