All three of my original 68z fans have four rivets per blade. Also the clutches are dated on the hub edge and they have silver paint from the factory. John

I'm just trying to find out what this was for.  If the 68 is 1968, then it didn't come off the later Corvette.  Maybe it's an 89?

Most of the Schwitzer (flat plate) clutches are dated on the hub O.D., but the Eaton (coil element) clutches aren't.

Part of the shaft was painted silver on Schwitzer clutches, but not on Eaton clutches.

So John Z, did this fan of mine come off a Corvette?  If so what application was it for?

I don't know what the application might have been - the 3" bolt circle Corvette fans had five rivets.

Thank you.  I guess the hunt is still on for what this fan was for?  It is a 3 1/4 " bolt circle.

1960-1970 Corvettes used the clutch with the 3" fan attaching bolt circle; it changed to 3-1/4" in 1971. Eaton still makes new clutches in both the 3" and 3-1/4" bolt circle versions - the 3" version is GM #3916141, don't have the part number handy for the 3-1/4".

Anyone ever find out a part # for the Eaton 3-1/4" fan clutch?  Also, I have my fan on Ebay and a guy sent me a message saying that fan is for the L78 and that the 4 rivet blades weren't strong enough for the big block motor.  The logic escapes me and if that were true, I guess it would have been mentioned in Jerry's book.  But no one has really said what this one was for.

Nope, it has to have the 3 1/4" bolt circle.  Same as '67 L78.

Tell me about it, I bet I could part my car out for more than I could sell it whole!!     ;)

Paul

Yea Paul, between your 266 dizzy and that fan your're well on your way (along with a few other original parts - via eBay) toward buying a new 'retro' version... if that appeals.
Makes one wonder doesn't it? I passed on a badly wrecked '69 Z years back with less than 20k miles on the OE drivetrain - wish now I had bought it for the few hundred it would have taken and just tossed the body minus any of the now valuable trim parts that survived and stored the rest for times like these...
Probably like most I wouldn't have waited this long to sell it all off - but just think what something like that would have brought piece by piece in today's world!

So are the 69 Z clutch fans this expensive, or is it just the 67/68 Z version?

Usually it's the 67 and 8 z and L78 fans that are big bucks.
