from what I have been told -
The date would be possible if it was before the motor assembly date - though I have also learned that it was installed after the motor was mounted

The alternator is definitely installed on the assembly line - JohnZ confirmed this - so the car is a 01D and the engine is a 0117 so the date of 0122 on the alternator would seem to put it within range (john suggested about a week prior minimum).  The VIN is 520152 which is less than 100 cars away form the ending VIN for that month at LA.  So I'm think that the car had to have been built he last day or so of the month and that would make the alternator 8-9 days ahead of the car...anyone disagree?

I hate to jump on a piece which will need significant refurbing and then have it not really "fit" the puzzle - ya now?
