small block pulleys
« on: March 27, 2008, 06:46:34 PM »
I have a 69 RS with 350 in it.
I bought the 69 Z-28 deep groove pulleys for crankshaft, water pump, power steering and alternator. I thought all would just bolt on my 350 motor without problem, but I found that the 2 groove crank pulley sticks out about 3/8" too far for belts to line up. apparently the crank pulley for a 302 is different than the crank pulley for a 350, am I correct??
Also I was under the impression that from 69 and later, ALL pulleys were deep groove, is that true or false??
If that is true, Why are people like myself spending money for the Z-28 Deep Groove pulleys???
And if I buy yet another crank pulley for a 350, will I be able to mate it with the Z-28 pulleys I'm using now?
Thanks guys, first time on this site.

I already have looked at that pulley chart. Thats where I got the part numbers for the Z-28 deep groove pulleys that I installed. My problem is that the Z-28 crank pulley doesn't fit my 350. It's too long, even though I had been told before that the 69 Z-28 pulleys would bolt right up to the 350. Actually they DO bolt up, they just don't LINE up. Anyway, I was just hoping that somebody here could verify that 302 and 350 crank pulleys don't interchange, so that I knew I wasn't missing something else.

you are correct -to the best of my knowledge
although they both bolt to the balancer in the same fashion, the 2 are different and will skew the belts.  I tried the 668 when I removed the AC from the motor and I had to replace belts constantly. I was ignorant back then and thought every small block pulley was the same.  I went back to the original 3 grove
