67 Cowl Tag Opinion needed
« on: January 28, 2006, 03:10:20 PM »
I am interested in this car but the cowl tag looks a bit funky to me.  The numbers look out of line, etc...  Can I get an opinion from one of the experts here on whether the tag looks genuine or not?   N223541  Thanks!

I'm saying repro, there are a couple of things that look "off" but then I don't study the 67 tags like I do the 69's.  Some of the 67 guys would have to give it a good look.  If your considering buying it, verify everything, don't take the sellers word for anything.

I'm no expert, but the top row of information is a lot closer to the "GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION" than any I've seen. I'm looking at my 04A 67 when I make this comment.

Here is a photo of a 67 trim plate. One thing that I question is the position of the color codes. On your tag the "F-F" code starts under the 5th digit of the NOR line. This tag has the color code "C-C" starting under the 4th digit. I'm not sure what this means. I would think this position would have been stationary. I'm curious if this location is fixed or does indeed vary.

I say repro. tag. I have my 05E 4K tag and my friend has a 05C 4K and that tag doesn't look anything like ours and ours are real

The tag is undoubtedly not a correct tag in my opinion. That does not guarantee that it is not an L78 car but without further documentation or the a numbers matched drive train I have to remain highly skeptical especially since apparently it was once sold through Golden Classics in NJ.
