They got rivets, not sure if they are real, what does the backside look like? The packaging looks too new to be the old style with rivets.

I have a pair of original riveted ones. I think the pattern is different in the old ones vs the newer ones.

i didnt recieve them yet, the one in the package is suppose to have rivits also.  did  GM sell over the counter rivited sill plates that differed  from the ones which came on the cars back in 69?   and even if they do differ alittle they still have to be better then repops  NO?   they are already bought, just wondering if I got lucky or what?

Man, your lucky you saw them first cuz I would have snached them right out of your hands!!!!
Wrapper is dated May 5 1978 and I'm pretty sure they stopped with the rivets by then but post some pic's when you get them - I hope their the real deal!!!!

I had figured out the change once, but it's fuzzy now. I think that about 72 or 73 they stopped using the rivets. Should be the same timing for the service parts.

Here's a question, were the rivets black or bare steel (or aluminum) when they were freshly installed?

They were bare...

I just checked the original ones in my '68 Z/28.  Here's the results...

Left side = black rivets
Right side = bare rivets

I've seen them both ways too but I just always thought 1 was a repop.  Paul-Can you post a pic of each side?  What's the build date of your car?  Maybe they changed from bare to black or vise-versa somewhere along the line???

Anyone got the repops with the rivets?  Who made them (MFG) and what do you think of them?  Post pics if you can.  I need to get a set and I know there's a few companies making them and want to the "better" set.  I have to to dig out my originals and see what they look like now....Dam it, was trying to avoid that!!!!!!

My photo files are too large to post on this forum, even with the smallest image size setting on my camera.     :(

Paul, save the image to your desktop, right click/open with/Microsoft office picture manager.  You can resize by clicking picture/resize.  Choose predefined size & web large.  then just save as a different name & upload!!!  Or just use photobucket.com & copy the IMG link it gives you.

Those sill plates are still available from GM. The package looks almost new and if both of the packages come open I would be a little suspicious. There is a site that details how to add rivets to the sill plates.

GM sells the plates for about $58.00 each.

I have a set of the reproduction sill plates that classic sells. They look good but are really not correct.

Rick,

Good to hear from you!  When you say Classic sells, do you mean Classic Industries sells them or mean Classic Headquarters makes them?  I'm looking to see who has what manufactures plates if that makes sense!  I.E. "I have OER's plates & they stink because the fit is horrible and the emblems look like my 2 year old son riveted them on"
Also, when you say not correct, what do you mean?

By the way, saw you & your car in the 40 Years of Camaro book...CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!  Thats AWESOME ;D

Chris,
I believe mine came from Classic Industries. I know when I got them they had just been released and I had ordered them from Bob at Camaro Specialties. I'l ask him where he ordered them from next time I am there.
Mine didn't fit well either and had to be massaged a little and the rivets are black compared to my original sill plates.  I am not real happy with them because they are too shiney compared to the originals.
The only problem with my originals is one has a ding in it. Might put them back on for Carlisle this year.

Nice to hear from you as well, Chris and thanks for the compliments. Your car would have made a great addition to the book.

If you make it to Carlisle look me up.

Here is a close of the ones off my 67 z/28. The rivets are both black.
I can see if there is wear and tear that the paint could be wore off the rivets over time.

The difference in the repops vs the real deal is the detail and size of the windows in the carriage:

Thanks Rick!!!  Would have been an honer to have my car in that book!!!  I'm shooting for Ledgends this year (pending pre-qualification) so I'll see you there!!!

Jonesy... there is no wear on the 69 RS/Z the plates are immaculate... one rivet is black one is silver..

So I guess they came both ways???  or maybe it's possible the rivets were originaly black and sometimes the rivet machine chipped the paint off upon setting the rivet?  See I always thought they were bare, and the cars with the black ones were repops, but you learn something new every day!!!

Here's an update-the seller on eBay listed another pair and I bought them too in hopes maybe I too struck gold like John hpoefully did. John had a good point though-what are the chances of this guy having 2 sets?!?  He should have his by Wendsday so we'll see if we did or just payed double for re-pops in GM wrappers :'(

I just checked the original ones in my '68 Z/28.  Here's the results...

Left side = black rivets
Right side = bare rivets

I can see if there is wear and tear that the paint could be wore off the rivets over time.

I just removed my sill plates to test Jonesy's "wear and tear" theory.  I figure the rivet color on the underside of the sill plates would show what color they were originally.  My results...

Left side = black rivets on underside
Right side = bare rivets on underside

:)

Ed, Great pic's!!  The 68's rivets look bare to me though, maybe just the picture.  Also neat to see there's a difference in the font of FISHER & the wheels and drawing of the carriage between 68 & 69.  Going to dig my originals out and I'll post some pic's.

Go here and download the image resizer - works great with Vista, just like the Microsoft "Image Resizer" that works with XP; I have it on my other laptop.

I've got two sets of repop, problem is I can't remember who made them.  The last set I got look damn near perfect so I'll get a pic and post it and let you decide.  Then I'll look fo rthe packaging it came in.

Finish is too shiny and looks like the windows are different.  Made by trim parts
