OER latex trunk seal

I found out this past weekend that the OER latex trunk seal absorbs water like a sponge. It does not work like a seal to stop water. Anyone else have this problem and what are you using? The GM replacement seal is too hard to let the trunk lay flat. I will the Metro seal next.

Lemans Blue X33. DZ, M20, manual steering. Only BU code rear end is original.

The GM seal takes awhile to get memory. Mine is starting to come around after 3 years.
I suppose with more usage it would speed up the process.

I did not know the latex was water absorbent.
